I was thinking about how many ribbon tied bridal bouquets I’ve made over the years, how the goal when I’m designing is to capture that freshly picked but styled look without tightening the bouquet so much that the flowers smash together with no room to see the individual blooms. When you’re designing a hand tied bouquet, you hold the stems in your non dominant hand and use the thumb and forefinger as the fulcrum, from that one point you can determine how loose or tight a bouquet will be.
Barely Cinched is that in a vase, the inside mirrors the outside so the porcelain folds make places for the splayed out stems, the gently nipped in “waist” helps to keep the flowers from wandering too far from the composition and the folds around the rim make sure that one does not cut all the flowers to the same height-a reason that floral designs can look awkward or unnatural. As I played with this concept, I landed on Barely Cinched because it makes for a very user friendly and frequently reached for vase. As functional as it is pretty, I’ve used the original almost every week for 3 years since making it.
